Tucked Into A Corner of an Ancient Church

|

Personal photo, Sacred Heart in Sta. Maria in Trastevere. It's not the main image in the side chapel, so you have to hunt, and I had to position my phone through a grate.

Continuing with my vanity project of sharing my "collection" of Sacred Heart images from places I've been during this month of the Sacred Heart.

The Basilica of Sta. Maria in Trastevere is considered the oldest church in Rome, the first where Christians could worship openly. Really cool 3D tour here. Many of its columns were scavenged from the ruins of the Baths of Caracalla and it houses artistically important mosaics, an icon known as the Madonna di Clemenza that dates from the middle ages, and a chapel that houses instruments of the martyrdom of Christians.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Have Mercy on us!
