I'm of the opinion that red-blooded Americans play basketball, football and baseball. Soccer I think of as an effete European import: a Socialist game, embraced by yuppies with no real understanding of America.
Recently, however, Middle Weed has come out as a soccer enthusiast. Despite my gentle encouragement to choose another sport, he is adamant that he loves soccer and is really good at it. I don't know where this orientation comes from, but I've decided to be okay with it and love him no matter who he is.
Off to our first game.
