A new paper looks at 272 cities over 600 years and concludes there is no Protestant Work Ethic and never was. Actually, he doesn't deny there's PWE so much as disprove Max Weber's claim that Protestant nations are wealthier than Catholic ones because they threw off all that superstitious popery. Apparently that has no effect on the economic development of cities; Catholics & Protestants have similar economic behavior (as that lovely Protestant Adam Smith could have told 'im).
Weber, with Karl Marx, is considered one of the three architects of modern social science. That's two down. Who's going to take on Emile Durkheim so we can be done?
