Oh, Lawd. al-Maliki wants to ban smoking in Iraq. You will never convince me that's not malign American influence at work. Next the Iraqi Parliament will mandate sex ed and condom distribution in Iraqi schools (smoking bans and condom distribution being "proof" of one's civilization in this world in which we wouldn't want to impose our Western ideas on anyone).
It was al-Qaeda's smoking ban that turned many Iraqis against the bad guys. Iraqis don't want to live under sharia; impose the Western form and they're not going to be impressed.
