Abortion v. Informed Consent
South Dakota is an abortion-free state, and it took no constitutional amendment to affect the change. The single remaining abortion clinic in the state closed Monday. The reason is telling: on Friday an informed consent law went into effect --one which requires patients to be informed at least two hours prior to their abortion of the humanity of the fetus and the potential for mental health side effects resulting from the procedure. Rather than comply, Planned Parenthood closed shop. Whether permanently isn't clear.
