What Is An Evangelical?

I read the Evangelical Manifesto when it was released a few weeks ago, but decided not to comment on it for fear that I wasn't hip enough to current evangelical terms of art to fully understand it. It's easy to be cynical and see it merely as a move on the part of liberal Christians to pry evangelical voters from the GOP, and certainly that's all the press focused on; but I don't like it when people read papal pronouncements in solely political terms, so I am laboring to take the document at face value. Fr. Neuhaus has no such qualms (curtsy: Prof. K). And here's Albert Mohler with an evangelical's critique. I will say this: the word "baptism" doesn't appear. Which strikes me as odd in a Christian manifesto.
