Torture Debate Ends As Farce

|
I'm pretty sure even having a public debate about torture is coarsening to the body politic, but I have to note:
  • Teddy Kennedy is the Senate point-man against waterboarding. Let that sink in.
  • And when a Congressional delegation including Nancy Pelosi was briefed on tough interrogation techniques in September, 2002:
no objections were raised. Instead, at least two lawmakers in the room asked the CIA to push harder, two U.S. officials said.

"The briefer was specifically asked if the methods were tough enough," said a U.S. official who witnessed the exchange.

So the objection was, you're just interrogating them, not hurting them enough? Kind of like PM Chirac's defense policy: we are absolutely against war, unless we feel like nuking you.
