Depends What The Meaning Of "Fix" Is

To begin with a digression, is it really necessary for the candidate to tell us he approves the message when he is himself the one speaking? That's as deleterious a feature of McCain-Feingold as any.

Anyway, here's part of the script of Hillary's housing ad:

Announcer: What if we had a different president this year? Hillary Clinton called for action on America's housing crisis in March, in June, in August. George Bush and Wall Street did nothing. Since then home prices have plummeted and millions may lose their homes. Hillary's plan: freeze home foreclosures, freeze rates on adjustable mortgages, provide real tax relief for the middle class. When we choose a president next year, let's choose one that would have started fixing our economy this year.

If I were president, I'd have a bi-partisan presidential commission to set the price for each home that went on the market. And another one to regulate the bidding process so wealthier buyers couldn't out-bid poorer ones. And I'd reduce the rates on ARMs. And you could totally skip a mortgage payment if you wanted to. And I called for this in 2005, so let's choose a president who would have started fixing our economy last year.
