In Which I Succumb To The Dark Arts

|
Finished reading Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows just now. My powerful Skepticism Of All That Is Popular charm was broken & I found myself enchanted. I picked it up just to see whether or not to let our daughter read it. Not only have I found it hard to put down the past few days, I think it's like an innoculation for young people against all the worst faults of our age.

Since I like to think I have more honor than the Formerly Gray Lady, I shan't write spoilers, but I must say I reject the view of some critics that the series is "dark." It isn't dark. Lemony Snicket is dark. Harry Potter is serious (and scary in places), which is something else entirely. Probably why kids love JK Rowling --she respects them.
