There used to be an old saw in this town that whenever another domino fell to the Iron Curtain, we got a new cuisine in Washington. It is therefore with extreme anxiety I note the sudden influx of imports from the UK in my local grocery. Cadbury everything. Not just the brands they normally sell here, but Flake, Wispa, Curly-Wurly, "drinking chocolate." Malt vingegar, cock-a-leekie soup, pickalilly, spotted dick... to say nothing of the sudden vast expansion of the Indian foods section --a sure sign of the presence of ex-pat Brits.
Has Britannia fallen? Can someone check?
