St. Nick, who comes on his feast day at our house (why is he so tardy to everyone else's?) , left the usual candies and tiny toys in stockings this morning --plus a few books for Advent reading. (His visit reminds us the coming birth of the Christ Child will be sweet.) Just for fun, he also left a wonderful pop-up version of The Night Before Christmas, from which the picture above is taken. From which additionally I can't believe the following lines have not yet been sanitized.
The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth. And the smoke, it encircled his head like a wreath.In the pop-up, Santa has a silver pipe in his mouth as plain as day. Is he allowed in NYC?
