Glad We Caught 'Em, But. . .

|
Yesterday's big news was the Tunnel bombing bust, of course. But no one seems to have noticed that we weren't supposed to know about it.

From WaTi this morning:
Mr. King suggested federal authorities were not yet ready to make arrests, but acted after the Daily News story broke. He said, "I wish it had been held. It would have been better if this had not been disclosed."

And if Peter King is too kooky for you, another source, quoted in WaPo:
Mershon said officials had not planned to announce the arrests yesterday and criticized the leak to the media, saying it upset cooperation between the United States and six foreign governments assisting in the investigation.

No kidding. I'm sure Lebanon is delighted for it to be public knowledge that it will arrest people on our behalf. Who are we hiring for security work these days, National Enquirer alums?

UPDATE: no doubt you've seen Thomas Sowell's column, Is Patriotism Obsolete? Since I'm a wee bit tired of treating press treachery with high tones, as if anyone at our editorial desks is seriously weighing the implications of what they print, I appreciate his cutting to the chase:
Americans may in fact be dying literally now because of what the terrorists have been told -- and ultimately because a jerk inherited the New York Times.
