Grace Is Expensive

A vicar who can't forgive her daughter's killers resigned her post. Her integrity is admirable, and My Crony points out it's also itself a Christian witness to the truth about sin. I think he's right, and I'd add that I'm always a little troubled --especially in death penalty debates, where the topic tends to come up-- by how casually those who are not victims of terrible crimes advise victims to "let go" and "forgive." Clearly we are called to forgive our enemies, but it's well to remember how costly it is to do so; forgiveness doesn't come cheaply. Or easily. And certainly not by simply detaching your heart from caring about justice, right order, and people you love.
