Condi Rice has State Dept. bureaucrats up in arms because she wants to re-deploy them to hard-duty jobs in the Middle East, etc. From now on, you can't become a senior official without accepting hardship posts and speaking at least two languages --preferably Chinese or Urdu, something like that. Read Ninme's post on it. It's precisely what I would say.
