Local Liberty says MLK day should be seen as sort of an Advent to the Christmas of Washington's & Lincoln's birthdays. A day when we should
pause to think about the relationship of the founding principle of human equality to the rest of our political and moral lives. It is the introduction to our celebrations of Lincoln and Washington in February.

I'll buy that, and he also links to this excellent round-up of King speeches and related essays. After dinner & rosary, we're going to listen to "I Have A Dream" on CD with the kids, and I promise you we won't be even slightly tempted to compare Dr. King to Zacharias Mousawi or José Padilla.
