I collect Nativity scenes. Not fanatically: not every one I see. But I am fascinated and delighted by authentic cultural expressions of the coming of Christ, so I have one each from close to 20 countries. My favorite is one from Tanzania carved from ebony --something about the peacefulness and dignity in all the faces. And the kings carry tribal drums.
I'm probably finished unless I stumble across one from India or Japan. (OK, or something truly beautiful or unusual). But no Hummel, no Precious Moments, and definitely, definitely not any of these (Ninme, if you're reading, check out what our friend, the "painter of light" does with a cloak in the Angels link). Baptism is no indication of taste, unfortunately!
