The compromise on the Iraqi Constitution announced yesterday seems to be great news. So much for the "truth" that "those people" aren't used to democracy and wouldn't know how to compromise with each other. You know the most telling sign to me thusfar that Iraqi democracy will succeed (provided the US doesn't cut and run prematurely)? The civility with which they're treating prisoners from the former regime. Did you know Saddam Hussein's being allowed to vote? On the ground that "All non-convicted detainees have the right to vote." (I think I heard on ABC radio that he's refusing to cast a vote, but the offer's there.) Amazing.
