Zarqawi Incites Civil War

I believe (and, let's be frank, fervently hope) the Sunni will see through this. You may have looked at the post headline and said to yourself, "Duh," but what makes the story new is the pamphlets actively targeting Shia rather than Arab fighters just bombing and hoping.
The reporter picks up on something interesting my spy in Paris said a couple of weeks ago. His brother is a contractor in Iraq, and reports that an ironic handicap the military faces is that Americans are considered to be nice guys. The good-will efforts have worked: people like them and trust them as far as character goes; but they are afraid of the insurgents and Arab fighters. An Iraqi cop who gets a note saying he'd better resign or his kids will be tortured knows he faces no reprisal for failing to follow through on his commitment. In many cases, that choice amounts to a "no contest."
On the bright side, there are stories like this (curtsy to ninme), which show that many, many Iraquis wish to look past their ethnic differences.
