I'd Prefer "Dictatorial Potentate"

It's rumored that Bush may appoint a Katrina "czar" to oversee recovery. I hope not. I know this goes back to Bill Bennett as "Drug Czar," and the use was ironic and colloquial. But does it bother anyone else that in a Republic, where it's vital to maintain citizen attachment to the habits of freedom, we like to call everyone "czar" --as if in order to get anything done, the people must cede power to a tyrant of the worst kind?
Why, yes it does bother someone else. It bothers George Will in his column yesterday about reactions to Katrina (well worth reading --Will at his best).
