That's what I thought of reading this VHD column about the attitudes of Japan versus Old Europe relative to "us --U.-S." as Paul Harvey says. Here's the poem.

"Then it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, 'ow's yer soul?"
But it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll"

Incidentally, Spousal Unit remarked last night that the Gitmo-as-Gulag meme so popular on the Left these days is the unfortunate price of success. Bush has more or less demolished Al-Qaeda, thus Sen. Durbin, et. al. can trash the Tommies (Sammies?) until they feel scared again.
